I still hang out in Newcomers, Kevin.

There's no time limit.

I think I like refering to myself as a newcomer. That way I don't get complacent. It's been almost two years but the grip it had on me is still pretty raw. Which for me is good because I don't want to take the peace I have found for granted.

I don't know what I think about the designation myself. As for the different sections on SR, I try and post things that pertain to newcomers in that section and general comments in the Alcholism section. Whether I'm a Newcomer or not doesn't really enter the picture for me

Going on 2 years for me but this is where I hang out most of the time. The area where I figure I can help the most, plus I still learn a lot from others. I'll be blunt and selfish, too, that the fresh pain and anxiety here helps me remember when I embraced sobriety in May 2009. Sorry if that hurts to hear, but it's true and helps keep me sober.

For me, an "AA'er", what Carol said.

...but here on SR, most of the traffic is in the newcomers section

When you start to hate reading about other peoples problems, heh. I give this site a lot of credit, it has given me the insight that I no way in hell want to try and become a recovery counselor as I did when I first started getting clean. Too much complaining and woe is me with addicts, thank God I've realized that's not what I want to do, thanks SR.

I'm still learning everyday Kevin, so I'm happy to still consider myself a newcomer

I'm with Dee on this. I hope to always remain teachable. I learn new-to-me stuff about recovery, my disease and myself. I fear if I ever become jaded about my recovery that will lead me back to the pit of despair I've worked too hard to get out of.

Love,

Lenina

Why does it matter? As long as we remain teachable, we are in some ways always newcomers.

Cool

"when is a newcomer to recovery not a newcomer anymore"

I noticed that a lot of folks here seem to equate 'being teachable' with 'being a newcomer,' but I just don't see it quite this way. In fact, I'm just sitting here trying to put in my ES&H regarding this, but I don't want to offend someone. Oh, well, here goes..............................

I guess I should start with I've known a number of you for all, or at least most of the years I've (we've) been here. We may not see all things in the same way, but I feel that we've alll grown (or at least I know that I have grown in many ways).

Yes, I'll agree that I've been teachable......but still consider myself a newcome.....? Nope, not atall..... I'm reminded of the ole AA saying, "The newcomer is the most important in the room." Now, I do agree with that statement; 1000% .........But, I do not consider myself to be the most important person in any room................soooooooooo

For me to still consider myself a newcomer; well, my ego (which is big enough, as it is and too big in some circomstances) well, it would be doin' a whole lotta growin, demanding to be treated as such, from all around.....

Now, plz don't take offense in what I've just written. I don't consider all who like to consider themselves as newcomers (equating being teachable) to have inflated egos......just moi.....
