"Mommy Doesn't Drink Here Anymore"
"Mommy Doesn't Drink Here Anymore"
I put this in the book forum, and I hope you don't mind me putting it here too. This seems to be where the traffic is. Yesterday I read cover to cover "Mommy Doesn't Drink Here Anymore" by Rachael Brownell. Man did I feel like it could have been me writing that book. It's a memoir about her first year of sobriety. I really related to it. Even more than "Drinking, a Love Story" and "Lit". I wanted to throw it out there to all of the wine drinking mom's trying to recover. It made me laugh and cry.

Thanks---always looking for books like this that capture the human element of recovery. Good that there are some laughs in it as well--I'm not up for anything totally grim at this point!
(ahh, just took a look via the link. seems like she was a white wine drinker, so I"m sure i will be able to identify)

I checked this out and it looks good - question, I'm new in recovery with adult children (though they were affected by my alcoholism as children). Would you suggest this one for me or "Drinking, a Love Story?" Thanks for sharing....
I can't say. I'm new too. I related more to "mommy....." very much. , but I LOVED "drinking......" too. They are different and yet the same. Just like us. "Lit" was fabulous too.
Reading has replaced my drunk evenings...and I even remember what I read in the morning. A present to myself for not drinking was to get a Kindle, so these books are just a click away and I'm going to reward myself because I'm feeling down today. Thanks Inafishbowl and Least.

I read it in one day, too...other than the author's issues with her relationships with men, I seriously felt it could have been me writing the book! It inspired me to quit drinking, actually. And to go to my first AA meeting. Needless to say, after I returned it to the library I ordered my own copy. I never thought a book would change my life, but this one sure did...
Thanks simplyfab, I was worried that it might be inappropriate. But becoming Magda from "Something about Mary", has been a fear of mine. She frighteningly reminded me of myself years ago when I first saw that movie. I already look and act like a 38 year old version of her.
