Hi Kevin - it happened to me, too, for the first few months. I never used to eat many sweets, but I suddenly had to have them. I even bought bags of lollipops to eat while I watched TV - I was just so nervous and seemed to crave the sugar.
This has been discussed on SR before - not sure where. After awhile the desire diminished for me, but every now and then I still need chocolate. Oh, and the ice cream craving never did leave......but hey, this is small stuff compared to what we've been through.

I have "loved" sugar forever, and it is still a problem for me. Only time I didn't crave it was when I was pregnant---so clearly there is a biochemical element to the whole thing in my case.
It is certainly better than drinking though
If you stay away for a few days (only eat fruit) then I hear it gets better.

There's no sugar in Diet Coke.
I wouldn't be worried about getting addicted to sugar. Being 'addicted' to sugar isn't really going to harm you in comparison to alcoholism, unless you don't get exercise and are overweight then there's a possibility you could induce diabetes.

Oh lord, I craved sugar and even today, when stress enters my life, my first thought is buying a bunch of cupcakes. If you feel a craving, have a milk shake or something else sweet.
Alcohol is very high in sugar. Brain is saying: if I can't get booze at least get me ice cream!
My sponsor used to say "one addiction at a time"...

I have just started craving food - period. The only time I was ever really hungry when I was drinking was around 4pm, after my first few drinks on the weekends. Now I get hungry like a normal person again! After only a week... Till yesterday morning, I hadn't wanted breakfast in over 4 years, and stopped completely 2 yrs ago. I used to eat lunch every workday, but could just as easily not have... except for the fact that wine was included (free) in the menu where workmates and I ate, and the waitresses never minded bringing more bottles... Ah, the joys of France... That restaurant is definitely a place I am never going to return to!

well hopefully as the fool days of addiction fade into memory i can lose some weight-i have decided that putting on a little weight is an acceptable seesaw effect if it stops a slip which could end up as a lapse or worse.
1 thing at a time- going to the gym is on my radar but i still struggle somewhat at certain people and key points and im still bumping into people that are used to the 'old' idot me-as time wears on news of my change of character will spread is the plan plus i will feel more confident with every sober day.
jah bless

Food disorders/addictions/disease are very serious indeed.
Keep in mind, you can't stop eating, it must be controlled........like how would we control our drinking?
