Breathing deeply and Not Doing A Thing
Breathing deeply and Not Doing A Thing
GAWD I'm getting so sick and tired of this constant recovery thing that I have going on, you know!? I wish I could just be DONE with it already!!!
So RAXH has a problem with scheduling and kids. He e-mails me and explains it. I'm half-ways through a response when I stop myself and say, "HEEEEY! Wait just a goshdarnminithere!!! This is a problem that YOU have because YOU have put yourself in this situation -- it's a problem YOU didn't have to create for yourself but that you chose to create for yourself. How exactly is that MY problem and why am I trying to solve it for you?"
In Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" there is mention of a gigantic space ship parked in the middle of a parking lot but painted with a special coat of paint that makes everyone who sees it decide that it's an SEP -- Somebody Else's Problem -- and go about their lives immediately forgetting they ever saw it in the first place.
I need to remember that 99% of the things my RAXH e-mails me about as SEPs.

It is hard sometimes to delineate when something is someone else's problem.
When it's someone you care about, as well, sometimes it's difficult to figure out when it's time to just step away, when it's time to simply listen, and when it's time to step in and lend a hand. There is a time for each, and I seem to be very good at picking the wrong times.
I have to constantly remind myself.
Progress, not perfection.
I am getting somewhere - hopefully I'm going in the right direction!
