Even 'They' Deal With Them!

I just wanted to share this story.
I went to see my doctor the other day and as per my usual m.o. with her, I told her *everything* that was going on with me. Not just medical concerns, but what's going on in my life, relationship stuff...everything.
So I told her about the 5am drunk dial/psychotic tirade I got the other day, and she said she has a regular drunk dialer in her life too!
I couldn't believe it, she said it was an old girlfriend from college.
Once a week, has been going on for years.
She said she has told her to call only when she's sober. Nope. When in one ear and out the other. And she's too nice to change her number.
It's just unbelievable how drunks can have such a hold on people, and those from all walks of life. No one is immune!

Yep! We've ALL got issues of one kind or another. If there's one thing I've learned about people, it's that. I've learned not to be envious of anyone because you never know what goes on behind closed doors or what lies ahead of them on this path we call life.

Do the drunks have a hold on people or have those people lost a hold on themselves?

I recently learned that the sister of a friend of mine is an addict, and that she's been terrorizing her mother for years. I was absolutely clueless about this. Just like he was clueless about my situation until I recently confided in him. Secrecy is such a painful burden of the condition.

"Secrecy is such a painful burden of the condition". Boy isn't that the truth. I think that if anyone looked at my family they would think that we are the All American Poster Child family. Thing is though...the couple of very close friends that I have confided in are very supportive, non-judgemental, and neutral. It is also very true that everone has something going on in their lives...its part of being human.

It's as unbelievable how we codependents permit people to have such a hold on us.

Have you ever heard the phrase, "Friends multiply joy and divide sorrow."

We get a lot of hope and healing when we share our burdens

My good friend has a 'nighttime caller' as well.

She recently told her not to call again until she's sober.
She hasn't heard from the woman since.

My sister used to get all liquored up
and call me in the middle of the night.
Then she'd go on for hours about how MY life was crap.

*shakes head*

I have no answers, just understanding on that one.

My Mother's Cousin's daughter - about 5 years younger than me - is a late night drunk dialer. Mom just lets it go to voicemail and never calls her back, but she keeps on calling! I've heard the messages on occasion; you can barely understand the poor woman.

The more I talk about my situation, the more I find people around me who have similar stories or have been touched by addiction in some way.
