New to this site- recovery at home.

Hi Everyone- I'm not sure where to introduce myself so I chose the newcomer's section. I'm almost 2 yrs sober but I'm recovering from a mild head injury right now and can't get to meetings much. It's gotten me down. Whenever I try to talk to anyone I'm usually told to either go to a meeting (can't drive, can get rides but it makes my head hurt to ride in a car) or help another alcoholic. So- I'll have to do that online for a while. I could use some company.

This is a great place to be (even when you can get back to meetings)! Way to go on getting 2 years - that's fantastic..... Would love to hear more about how you've gotten that far!

"Would love to hear more about how you've gotten that far!"

I don't quite have 2 years- still have a couple of months to go!! I was just rounding. I have been in AA for 4 years and relapsed a few times, once at 1 year and the other 2 times at 6 months. It just took me a while to get it. I had sponsors, did AA "straight from the book" 3 times it just took me a while to get it. My biggest hurdle was that I'm Bipolar 1 and was told to go off my meds each time, which I gladly agreed to b/c no self-respecting manic depressive wants to be on meds. Then I believed I was cured(the least of my delusions)and then everything would get messed up. I found a sponsor who would work with me on medication without the goal of getting me off finally- and I've come to accept Alcoholism and (the other)illness. Anyway, It took some time for me to find my place in AA but it has helped me greatly and I do believe I can offer help to others through my experience!

Welcome dbearw. I am an AA'er as well. Check out this link. If you listened to everything it has to offer, you'd wouldn't leave your house for 4 years. There is a ton of stuff on it. I listen to a different speaker almost every day. Best of luck to you and I hope you recover well.

Hi DBW-

Just saying hello and I'm an AA'er too.

I look forward to hearing more about you and with almost 2 years sober, you'll be a big help on this forum.

Tried to go to a meeting last night and got totally overwhelmed. The lights, the noise, there was no air, etc. I think I almost panicked and had to get my husband to come get me.This is not like me- I'm a very outgoing person who normally likes a lot of stimuli. This head injury is totally weird. Anyway- it's my reality for a month at least. This forum is going to keep me on track though- I just have to keep part of my life in recovery even if I can't leave the house for long. I did make t through the grocery store- forgot almost everything I went for but I made it through. I wish I could come out and ask people I know to help me out with meals and my kids and stuff- but I just hate asking for favors. I keep waiting for people to offer. I can say that here b/c none of y'all know me.Anyway, Thanks again for the company!!!
