Im new
Hi, I just joined, and obviously Im a little lost as to how to use this site. So Im sorry if I am posting in the wrong spot. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Im here because Im drinking too much, and have been unsuccessful at stopping. Its starting to scare me how little control I seem to have over the urge when it comes. I want to stop, to get it under control, and be free of this addiction, which I hate.
Im just not sure how/what/where to get help. But its obvious Im having trouble on my own.
Thanks
~Ray

I am new to this site, but not sobriety. I am going to try to post here and we will see what happens. I tried another forum recently and they were combative with me and I didn't think I was saying anything wrong.
Feel free to reach out here for assistance or feel free to contact me if you want to talk to someone privately; however, be warned! I may ask you for skin care tips haha
AA- Have you contacted your local AA group? I have only gone twice because my rehab sessions fall on the same night -but its a good place to start.
Rehab -I also contacted a local counseling service that whisked me into a 6 week out patient program. It is awesome I just love going! =)
I'm sure there are countless opportunies in NY. (I hale from Jersey)
Doing it on your own -not always a good choice. It is extremely hard to stop with no support. Its so easy to start the next time you feel the urge. But the choice is ultimately up to you when you are ready!
Welcome.

Welcome to a wonderful source of information
with many members sharing their own experiences,
strengths and hopes of what it was like before,
during and after their use of alcohol or drugs.
Some 20 yrs ago I was handed tools and knowledge
of my alcoholism and was set on the path of recovery
learning to live alcohol free one day at a time following
the steps and principles set down before us in AA or
Alcoholics Anonymous.
Today I continue sharing my ESH with those still suffering
from addiction in order to stay sober myself and has become
my soul purpose in life then and still today.
My 20 yrs is equal to 20 yrs of many one days @ a time
collected together to get me where I am today and has
become a way of life as I continue to reap the rewards
of the promises stated to us in the Big Book of Alcoholic
Anonymous.
Begin with day 1 ur first full sober day and from there
build a solid recovery foundation each day at a time
using the tools hand to you to live life in a happy
honest way.
Good luck as you begin ur new way of life
and journey.

You've just about described everybody on SR, who at somepoint struggled in their recovery. At least you're here. How many aren't?
Like you I was worried I drank to much. The idea nagged at me for TEN YEARS while I continued to drink. I guess you could say I was unsuccessful at stopping. But I don't believe I really tried stopping until I honestly admitted to myself I had a problem, quit drinking, and threw everything I had into recovery.
You can quit. Alone, if you aren't an alcoholic. An if you really can't quit, even after admitting your problem, perhaps you'll consider AA or another support mechanism,
Hi Rayne! You will find a lot of support here. There are several links on this site to a variety of recovery options. Congratulations on taking the first step. Admitting you have a problem. Keep posting on your progress and with any questions. Someone here will be able to help.
Welcome Rayne! SR was my salvation. When I came here I felt so alone, no one in my life had the problem I did, & no one even tried to understand.
It looks like you're taking action before things are total chaos. I wish I'd had the sense to do that. I kept trying to control the amounts that I drank - long after I knew I couldn't drink socially. I'm glad you're here, and hope you'll find the comfort and encouragement that I did.

Forward we go...side by side-Rest In Peace

Hi Ray - glad you found the forum. It's been a great source of support for me. Like you, I found that even when I wanted to quit, I couldn't. Finally, I just got so tired of doing the same thing over and over again and dealing with the obsession all the time.
I took it one day at a time and spent the first few days on this forum, and doing whatever I had to to not pick up a drink. It took a while to get used to, but my life is so much better today. Stick around.... you can do this!
