Thumbs up TOPIC: Recovery Allows Me To Be Me

Hi. Im Sharon and Im a grateful alcoholic
living HAPPY JOYOUS AND FREE here in
good ol Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

What I LOVE about recovery is that it
allows me to be me. It allows me to
march to my own tune. Not yours. Not
my parents. Not to a boss or whom ever
it maybe.

Growing up by a sick parent i took orders
like I was living in a concentration camp.
Having to keep a house immaculate just
like a museum.

Im 50 yrs old with 20 yrs sobriety and I
don't have to live a ridge life like that any
longer. Im also mature and knowledgeable
enough to know how to take care of myself
being responsible with a strong recovery
program to stand on.

My Faith is strong and the Man upstairs
is all I have to be accountable to.

The rest is icing on the cake....and boy
does that taste good.

Sometimes a new soul will come along
and ask why I write the way I do on here.
My answer is, I like to. We all have choices
in the way we do things and this is a way
I chose to do so.

If you come by and read my shares and
it's helpful to you, then that is awesome
because that is my soul purpose in recovery.
And in sharing my own experiences strengths
and hope with the new comer still suffering
it keeps me sober.

Glad to be sober here in SR.

As you know in life you wont and
you can't please everyone as hard
as you may try. It just aint gonna
happen.

That's where acceptance comes into
place. Accepting people places and
things just the way they are and move
on, including how members type there
shares.

Being me allows me to express myself
in my own unique fashion while sharing
the message of hope in recovery with
others. In other words instead of looking
at how someone types on here or there
look for the message that person is trying
to express in their writing.

If i had to be critical of everyone I came
across in my life, then id surely be in big
trouble by now.

In being me, ive learned compassion, love,
concern, trust and so on with my fellow members
still suffering from addiction. Being kind and
caring also cares you along way in ur own
journey.

Carrying on to be the best you can be with
positive vibes. I know I am because I am me.

Nice post dear... my problem is that I care too much of what other people think of me, and frankly speaking, this was what pushed me into alcoholism as I cared too much wat my college buddies would think of me.. but anyhow nice share

The way I was brought up I too always
always always worried what others thought
of me. Thought of how I looked, dressed,
behaved. Like I was judged under a microscope.

I too drank many years to numb the hurt
and hatred I felt from friends, family, strangers.

However, I used the tools and knowledge handed
down to me in recovery and have worked on me,
my self esteem, selfworth and other issues.

I do care what other think yet if its negative vibes
floating my way, it not enough today to make me
drink.

Today those negatives dont bother like they use
to years ago.

Anyway....Im enjoy sharing my thoughts on here
with u in SR.

Thanks guys for stopping in to read.
