Hello everyone

I'm 50 yrs old, retired musician, have done every drug known to man, was addicted to cocaine and crack, I drink like a fish.

I managed to quit everything except the booze and look forward to any advice.

Thanks,
777

Thanks everyone . . . I'm going to be perusing through some of the threads before I feel comfortable opening up.

I am really getting sick & tired of alcohol, but just can't stop.
I remember when I was a child and was clear of any substance abuse . . . that feeling was great, my mind/imagination was vivid, I had the desire to seek the mysteries in life!

Now, I just get ripped and blackout . . . not good

yea, after years of piling it on every day, it becomes "NOT FUN" any more like it use to be.

addiction sucks, and so does getting old.

It certainly beats the alternative ...

777...Welcome ..

Although drugs are part of myhistory...it was my alcoholism
that turned me into a woman I detested.

I'm now 75...the last 22 ..an AA recovered alcoholic.
It remains an awesome adventure in living sober...

Glad you joined us

I was watching That Metal Show
on the Classic vh1 station the
other day when they were chatting
with one of the Aerosmith members.

The question asked him was did
they produce better music high
on drugs etc. back in the day
or today clean and sober.

Sure the music came out great
when they all were pumped into
their music, but do they remember
recording that music?

He chuckled as he knows they
are all older and wiser now
and making music im sure is
different and has new meaning.

I myself cant play an instrument
of any kind, but I sure love listening
to any and all kinds.

I had 2 awesome kids who
picked up instruments in school,
a son with the Trombone and
a daughter , French Horn.

I learned to appreciate band
music and Orchestra music
as they performed thru out
the years.

My son went on to major in
music from fine schools and
is passing on his experiences
to younger kids.

As you begin ur journey you
will see that many today including
popular artist have learned to
continue on with their music
careers with a sober and clean
way of life.

So can you.

And with a greater appreciation
hopefully than ever.

777 - it's great to have you here! I spent many years seeking that old euphoria I once had when I drank. It was hard to admit it was no longer fun or relaxing. All I was doing was getting numb and living a very dangerous, pointless life.

It's wonderful you've decided to change your way of living - many never have the courage to face reality. If I, a lifelong drinker, can put together 3 yrs. of sobriety - anyone can. When I came to SR I realized I was no longer alone - and that made all the difference.

Looking forward to hearing more about you - let us know how you're doing.

Welcome 777 - Definitely great smilies here! Glad you're here and wanting to get sober. I doubted whether I could (or even wanted to) quit drinking, but talking to others who are going through the same thing gave me the hope and confidence I needed to take that step.

The realization that I couldn't stop finally lead me to accept my alcoholism. I tried controlling it for years (anything except stop altogether!) and it turned out to be a losing battle.

None of us can do this alone. Get all the support you need and take it a day at a time. If we can do it, so can you!

Welcome to SR 777,
glad you were able to beat the drugs and are now ready to concentrate on getting rid of the booze. Do you have a recovery plan you've thought out besides SR, maybe some face to face counselling or AA?
l have found since being a member in this forum a great deal of wisdom from other members and heaps of support, l'm sure you will too. Look forward to reading more of your posts.

Though no-one can go back and make a new start,
any-one can start from today and make a new ending.
