If you aren't ready for that, then change your plans... seriously. I know when I was in early sobriety a super bowl party was the last thing I wanted to host or go to if there was alcohol.

Maybe next year?

Welcome, need2chg

I'm with Mark. Start by changing your plans about hosting a Super Bowl party. And as you run through the excuses of why you can't change your plans...one of the them probably isn't going to be "I don't want to quit drinking..." But that may be the real reason.

Quit. Start now. Good luck.

don't want to but need to
I knew for a long time I needed to stop drinking but it wasn't until I wanted to stop that I actually could stop and be happy with my sober life.

Welcome to the family.

Welcome to SR. I would just cancel the party. I had to learn that I'm the only who can save me from myself.

If you're like me, and in my last drinking days, I blacked out too.

Then you're going to need to change more than just your superbowl plans, but that would be a great, solid start.

Do something, anything, everything different.

Blacking out is not a good sign and can mean you're a candidate for alcoholism.

I hope you take this sign seriously. Until then, good luck.

definitely been there...the problem is the longer I put off actually doing something, or the more half hearted I made my efforts...the worse my problem got.

I don't know anything about you or your life, but drinking alcohol more often than not ended in disaster for me.

I needed to accept that - and I also needed to accept that would never change.
