One Year Today!
One Year Today!
A year ago today, I put down the 58,400th empty beer can I had buried my life with and went to sleep. The next morning, as the sun climbed over the horizon of my life, I reached for my wings and started to learn how to fly. Four things have kept me away from alcohol for 365 days. They are:
. The realization I wanted to stay sober more than I wanted to have another drink.
. The amazing stories of those on SR who have managed to stay sober for hours, days, months, or years under the most challenging of life’s circumstances.
. The realization that if you resolve to do something one day at a time, you can do anything in the world.
. The most shocking realization for me has been the fact that I could not find one single advantage to drinking alcohol during my entire life. Not one.
But now I have my wings on, and although I’m still learning to fly, I love this feeling of the sky around me.
Thank you SR, you are truly all a special bunch of people!
