Post New to this

Hi, I'm new here, hoping I can get the courage to go to my first real meeting. I tell myself everyday that "this is the day", but haven't made it yet. After reading some or your stories, I think I might have a chance.

I ask a good friend to go with me to my first AA meeting.
Many people do that....maybe you could too?

Welcome to our recovery community...

Welcome, bloodymary - Of course you have a chance! A lot of us (myself included) didn't know if we could, would, or even wanted to quit. We just can't do it on our own, and need support. This is a great place to start.

Life is better without alcohol. Take it one day at a time and see a doctor about help with withdrawals. And hang out with us - we're all working towards the same goal: a sober day!

Welcome to our recovery community. Meetings are nothing to be afraid of. Just a lot of sober drunks, wanting to help others live sober also.

I was really scared and nervous the first time I tried a meeting and then after sitting down in the room I realized I was just with other people who are also just trying to stay sober as well.

hi BM....I also was very "hesitant" to attend my first meeting,
feeling like attending on e would be labeling myself...
But I found the exact opposite to be true, I have found meetinigs
to be supportive and encouraging in my efforts to remain sober...
I continue to be amazed at the similarities I hear from others to my
own situation.
I found myself feeling very "alone" in my strggles with alcohol, attending
meetings, sharing my story and listening to the stories of others has proved
I'm not alone...and the support I find there helps my confidence immensly...
Best of luck to you!!

Welcome!

I've found AA to be SO helpful in my recovery. I'm almost two and a half years sober now, and it's a great way of life.

Here is a very cool link that might dispel some of you nervousness about going to a meeting: What to expect at your first AA meeting. It's pretty accurate, I think.
