first day as a member here!
brand new to the forums. i have been sober for 12 years now and willingly deal with my addiction daily! it is such a worth while effort. the enjoyment of living a sober lifestyle not only for myself, but seeing the positive effects that it has on the people in my life makes the task so much easier to deal with. i have learned that life can be very good.
Glad to have you with us, iacb - I hope you'll share more about how you've gotten those 12 years. What's helped you the most?
You picked a wonderful place to join - for the past 9 months it's been like home-base for my recovery.

Welcome to SR iacb, What a accomplishment on 12 years, if you don't mind me asking what your secret to your success? what has helped you the most?
I'm coming up on 2 years sober next month and it's been the best 2 years of my life, but I tell you it was not that easy for me to put down the bottle. This site played a big part in my recovery and I personally read a lot on SR to gain strength from others here, you can say it's been my lifeline to me along with AA.
You'll get lots of support and good info and advice and hope you stick around.

Thanks to all the well wishers!
My 12 year journey has been a very good ride! My motivation? For me it is pretty simple. I like living my life with a sober perspective! They view is wonderful looking through sober eyes. If I ever feel even the slightest temptation coming on I just tell my self that I have worked too hard to get where I am at today to let it slip away. To anyone who is just getting started living sober I have this to say: When I got home from my stay at rehab I felt like my life was going to be empty, lonely, boring, and I would never have any fun again. It didn't take very long to learn that I wasn't having near as much as I thought I was. I remember what my life used to be like, and let me tell you, I am not going back. I like being sober. That's it.
Thanks for the uplifting words iacb, As time go on in my journey I feel the same way as you and love how you put it into these words "They view is wonderful looking through sober eyes." I also find in my journey that I draw more strength from within and my outlook on life has changed, everything looks completely different and I find that's my key to happiness... It good to have you here iacb and look forward to hearing more from you.
