Hello

I don't know if I am in the right place, I am from the UK and an alcoholic. I really don't know how to control my alacohol intake and because I am single now and don't have a strong person behind me to support me but I have made a New Years resolution to only drink on saturdays ( which I am doing now, Vodka and coke) and started taking driving lessons which I never did before beause of drinking too much. Hopefully it will work out and maybe there will be other UK members here...

I think you're in the right place too!

There are plenty of people from the UK here, as well as many other parts of the world.

Please read around SR. You will find a lot of support here. Good luck on cutting your drinking to just Saturdays. I hope that works or you, although you may find it difficult to moderate like that. Wish you the best.

Welcome Chriss

SR is all about people who are struggling to sort out their lives due to a drinking or substance abuse problem - you sound like you're in that category to me

I think a lot of us got into drinking as self-mediation for underlying issues Chriss - I know I did - but the drinking became my biggest problem.

I had to focus on fixing both my drinking problem and my other stuff to stay sober....but there's no need to get overwhelmed - I try to remember all I have to worry about is today

Welcome Chriss, sounds like you qualify, as others have said its about get clean and then learning how to live clean by looking at oursleves and changing what we can, accepting what we cant. It takes time, no rush, its all about getting well day at a time

Hi Chriss,

Welcome!

I think most of us have underlying issues to deal with. I believe that alcoholism is a symptom of the problems that we haven't addressed.

I'm really glad that you found us.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to SR! So glad you are here with us. I hope you find this site and its members as helpful and supportive as I do. Great advice above, I found that focusing on not drinking one day at a time is key for me.

Hi Chriss. You are definitely in the right place. Your New Year's resolution sounds like a great start; although in reading the forums you will find many of have not been able to moderate.

Welcome! And best of luck to you.
