When I loved myself enough...

I happened to find a great little book a while back that is called "when I loved myself enough". Was a weird experience as it was a shop that I never go into, and something led me straight to the spot where it was. Shop assistant then told me "you were lucky, it's the last one we have"...anyway, for whatever reason I stumbled across this book, I got to thinking that maybe we could all inspire each other to love ourselves enough.

Let's share what happens when we love ourselves enough, I will share that also and quotes from the book. I know my recovery journey really turned a corner when I started to love myself.

Looking forward to your responses.

--------

Quote from book:

"When I loved myself enough...

I quit rehashing the past and worrying about the future which keeps me in the present where aliveness lives."

- Kim McMillen

Thanks Ozgoddess! I love the title - I will check it out. Rehashing the past - that's my speciality, and has held me down for a long time.

The title alone has me entirely intrigued.

The nice thing about learning to love myself is that I realize, truly realize that when my loved ones look at me they see me in the same way that I see them. I like the idea that maybe my life and my presence is a gift to people. What a thing!

.....I also gave love to others. I wasn't totally self indulged and not giving a damn.

...I was able to make people laugh until they cried and smile until it hurt. I miss those days.

When I loved myself enough -

I started to dance in the light instead of living in the dark full of fear.

I learned to say 'NO' and feel good about it.

I began to love silence, something that I had feared for a long time.

I chose to put myself as a priority.

I learned to say no and not feel guilty about it
I learned I am worthy of so much more than I have been settling for and demanded more
I learned that I am much stronger than I thought
I learned to express myself and make sure I am heard

just a few

Hi Ozzy and thank you for a wonderful way that we can all express ourselves!
I'm beginning to love myself enough.....I'm beginning to believe in myself enough...
Most nights now, I can go to sleep with the comfort of knowing that I did all I could that day to be the best I can be, for myself and for others. I'm beginning to love myself enough to let go of all my old insecurities and fears, and let God tell me what His will is for me.
its wonderful.

Nice thread! I am still working on loving myself MORE, but...

When I loved myself enough, I realized it was okay to be imperfect. When I loved myself enough, I gained courage and let go of fear.

When I loved myself enough, I stayed sober through hard times. I stayed sober through emotions. I started to take care of me again. I looked in the mirror and smiled.

When I loved myself enough, I felt empowered because I knew the Universe supported me.

Quote from book...

When I loved myself enough....

I could remember during times of confusion, struggle or grief, that these too are part of me and deserve my love.

((Oz)) - thanks for bringing this book to my attention. I still have a way to loving myself, and your first quote from the book was dead on, for me. I still rehash stuff, at times, so am going to check this book out!

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

This thread caught my attention because I recently told my counselor that I do not drink partly out of fear of what others would think and that I wished it was more because I loved myself enough not to poison myself.

I move in and out of self-love (and love for others). When I love myself enough I am compassionate towards myself and I am okay with whatever I am feeling or thinking in the moment (not wanting to force myself to be different or 'better').
