And it begins...
I'm Adam and new to this Forum. I woke up today for the first time in 12 years not completely hungover from New Years. I've always had a problem stopping once I started drinking and it has cost me dearly. Most recently, I have alienated my co-workers and nearly lost my best friend who can no longer deal with me becoming a mean/angry drunk.
Now is the time and I do not want to go back. I am hoping that this site will keep me on the right path and help me when tempation rears its ugly head.

(((Badger))) - Welcome to SR!!!
This place has been a huge part of my recovery (my DOC was crack). Quitting the dope wasn't the hardest part...it was not picking it back up when life got tough. I read, and read, then read some more when I got here, and found people who'd managed to work a recovery program, and I'd take a little bit of this, some of that, and just kept not picking up.
Some people get great benefit from 12-step meetings. I went, years ago, don't go now, but still use what I learned there. I've found that no one way works for every single person, but as long as we want recovery (not the same as just quitting...it's learning about ourselves, changing things so that drink/drugs aren't our first option) more than anything, we can do it.
Glad you're here!
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Welcome Badger - there really is life after alcohol (even though I wouldn't have believe it 8 months ago). I use this forum for support every day and it helps keep me anchored and moving forward.
Take it one day at a time (rather than worrying about quitting forever). If we can do it, you can too!

Welcome Badger! I'm re-stopping myself, class of January.
I found that I was becoming an angry drunk...I made a complete fool of myself at my staff xmas party. I've made a fool of myself many times. Heck, I refused to tell the cab driver my home address! Probably because I didn't remember it.
Enough of all that madness, eh? Let's get clean and healthy and HAPPY!

Welcome, Adam. You can do this JUST FOR TODAY, one day at a time. If you feel at all like the physical withdrawal is too much, please do seek professional medical advice/supervision.
There are many paths to sobriety and to staying sober. I wish you the best as you finally free yourself of your pain and suffering.
Keep posting and reading--it really does help.
