Doves at Christmas

I have a thing about doves!
I've always liked them, for some reason I've never figured out!
A long time ago my brother made me a leaded white glass dove which hangs on a ribbon by my fireplace, and when he died I registered on a site which gave me a password involving the word dove.

So today we all went to my mums for Christmas dinner, my mums dining room looks over the garden where there's a bird table, my dad feeds the birds every day.

Just as we all sat down two collared doves fluttered onto the bird table, Dad said it wan't even worth turning aruond to look at them, as they visit everyday, but I think he's missing something!

I'd love to think my brother and sister in law were there in spirit, and the doves symbolised that for me.
And I hope the fact that they're there every day means they're looking out for my mum and dad.

I do believe in some things that other people sometimes find a bit 'daft', but seeing the doves made my Christmas more special and peaceful.

I just wanted to share that.
Merry Christmas every one, I hope you all have the best one you can possibly have, and I wish you all a peaceful one x

What a beautiful thought! I'm glad seeing the doves brought you comfort. There are so many beautiful things in the world, if we would just take the time to notice them.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Lucy!

(((Lucy))) - I love the way you're looking at the doves.

My mom was a butterfly fanatic. After she died, though she had been a vital part of the church we belonged to, I don't know if it has anything to do with her, but there are butterflies all over the church, in appropriate places (on the sign to church, on the communion knealing pads, etc).

Every time I see one, I am comforted..it's like mom has come to say "hi....I love you". The butterflies have shown up at the oddest of times, but usually when I need them. I think you will find the same of the doves

Love, hugs, and prayers,

Amy

Lucy, I believe that also.

A few weeks after my Dad passed away, a dove appeared on the kitchen window sil at our family home. That is exactly what I thought. Dad is watching over us and telling us that everything will be fine. I had never seen a Dove before then.

What a great comfort for you all.

Over here, that'd be your 'medicine' animal.

When Spirit wants your attention - that's what it sends.

And it makes you 'better'.

LucyA, Your thread reminds me of the poem I had printed out on my daughter's memorial cards.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow;
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the quick uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die. Mary Frye 1932

My DDH and I have not been getting along for sometime now. My sons took me out for a bite to eat at a restaurant. Shortly upon sitting at our table and waiting for the waitress to serve us, a monarch butterfly landed on my shoulder. It stayed there for the entire meal. It only fluttered away after my son wheeled me back outside. Yes, I do believe our loved ones are among us.

Love and Peace,******************

(((Phoenix)))) - thank you I know it may sound selfish, but I think that when other people see butterflies, it's my mom....she knows it's someone I care about, and she's just checking on them.

(((Lucy))) I will be looking for doves, now. Just like the butterflies, I expect to see them when I least expect them. I will think of you, Joe, and your boys when I see them and say a prayer of "thank you for looking out".

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Yay, the doves came to me this morning.
My parents place is like a fast food place for birds, my dad loves them all, he knows each individual goldfinch that takes the sunflower seeds from his feeders!
He makes sure theres fresh food every day for the birds, that;s why he wasn't bothered that the two doves appeared, of course they're there every day!
This morning I got up and did as I usually do and opened the back door for the dog and the cat, and there on my wall were two doves! I thought I was still dreaming, I don't feed the birds here because I live near so many trees and so much natural food for them it isn't worth it, I did try when I first moved here.
The doves have never been around before, we have ducks not doves!
I don't know what it means, or if it means anything, I just like that they were there!

duck medicine is dancing in two worlds.

they can navigtate the waters (emotions)
and they also can fly (the mental aspect)

duck medicine is also cyclical (migration)
