Well, he called me. Apparently he has been on quite a bender for the past two days and called me in a lucid moment.

After each of us saying "hello", he said "I'd like your opinion on something. I can either stay home and fight this out, or see if they have a bed for me at inpatient." I said "What do YOU feel you should do?" He said "I don't know." He told me he is feeling physically weird and is at his end emotionally. I told him that it must be an exhausting thing to be constantly kicking his own a$$. He agreed.

He asked me how my day was going and I said "Actually, its good. I got some financial things done for the divorce last night and I'm feeling better about it. Thanks for asking." He said he was glad to hear it.

Again, he said he didn't know what to do. I said "What are you giving yourself as options again?" He said "Well, inpatient treatment or I can stay and fight it out." I asked "And how has fighting it out been working for you since you relapsed?" He said "Not at all."

We ended with him thanking me for listening. I said "You're welcome." He told me that he loved me. I told him I loved him, too. The end. Wow...and I got off the phone with a smile. Double wow.

Thanks again SO much for your thoughts yesterday on this. It gave me confidence in my state-of-mind and well-being. I know that loving someone with this illness isn't the destructive thing; it's trying to love them TOO much at the expense of self. If it were not for your comments yesterday, I wouldn't have been able to have that conversation with such peace and love.
