New to the group

Hi just to introduce myself, My name is Dave and Im from the Midlands, Im new to this this group and hoping to chat to likeminded people about my issues. I gave up earlier on this year, Christmas is going to be the worst for me as everyone I associate with pretty much drink whenever out. Im single due to drinking my wife left me and took the children. Im trying to take a positive slant on things by thinking onwards and upwards. Sorry if my photo appears innapropriate I will change it for a more recent one when i get one

Welcome! I can't see your pic. A lot of us are anxious about Christmas and I can think of at least two people living without their families as a result of their drinking. You'll find lots of support here!

Welcome to the family! I agree it may be good to change your companions for a while. Have you no friends who don't drink?

It is difficult to be around drinkers, but if it's unavoidable it can be done without you drinking also. Focus on the positives of staying sober. Don't anticipate problems. Take it one day at a time and be good to yourself.

Welcome David,

I am glad you found us!

I also agree on the idea of staying away from alcohol and people who are drinking, at least for awhile.

Hi Dave, I am new here, too, but am lucky/grateful to be at home with my family. I am early on in this new stage of my life, but I will make it through. Need to find more non drinking friends and activities myself. I know they exist! Just seems I don't normally go to them.
I have managed to go out with the girls and not drink. It was ok and I was proud i could do it. I also went out to eat with my close family last night, too, thought about before and during, but made it through. Ate some coconut cake! That was my "treat".
Find ways to manage around difficult situations instead of worrying about them.
I told my friends I was doing a cleanse. Of course they wanted to know about it, but I have been cleansing with supplements, so I was honest.
Have a great day today!

If you are going to be around friends and family, who will be drinking, try to always have a non-alcoholic beverage in your hand. Its hard to accept a drink, when you have one in your hand.

Welcome! :] I am new here too, and have found that there are a lot of understanding and caring people here.

Things will get better for you, and easier. And I hope coming here helps with both of those.
