Unhappy sugar blues

Since learning refined sugar gives me the blues, 100% abstinance has worked so far, but the holiday season seems to trigger a few cravings after almost 8 months !?!

The store dislays the other night had my head spinning, really.

But, the thing that puzzles me the most is; ......I don't know one other person who stays away from all types of foods and beverages with refined sugar ?

Is there anyone you know ?

........feeling alright, but very alone on this one

my ex does, it's a lot of work, and she still allows herself some leeway so as to not go mad

One of my friends has an autistic child....the whole family avoids all sugar as well as gluten and dairy. I believe she participates in online support....she was a big time foodie before all this.

I work in the health field and avoid sugar, especially added sugars or refined grains. I council a lot of others to do the same.

Have you ever read Good Calories Bad Calories by Gary Taubes? It's a really interesting book questioning the current religion of high carb eating that is going on.

Or for the less reading inclined...

I know a few people who do. I have never tried it myself although I have been on restricted diets before. I was a vegan for 8 years, and might go back when I move out of my family's house soon.

The trick to such diets is not just to avoid one thing but seek out and experiment with foods you might never have considered before. Like with my veganism, people used to think that was hard or took a lot of determination, but truthfully I found so many good meat/dairy/egg-less recipes that I never felt like I was missing anything.

I tried to avoid sugar and meat and was very succesful until christmas came. All the holidays I started eating like crazy and got all sugary. Now I am trying to go back to my vegetarian lifestyle. It is hard though, vegetarian no meat, no sugar, limited whole grains, mostly only rice and lots of veggies, nuts and tofu. It cleaned my skin up really nice before, now over the holidays I got a lot of breakouts, maybe I was allergic to my family, lol
