Five Month Thank You
Five Month Thank You
Five months today. Who'da thunk it! Certainly not me when I signed onto SR last July, on day four being sober when a week seemed an impossibility.
Thank you to all of you on SR who made this possible. So many relationships made, so many stories read that will stay with me forever, so many lessons learned through shared experiences.
I truly believe I wouldn't have made it this far without SR in my life.
Thank you all from the depths of my being.

Congratulations Murray - just a wonderful thing!!!
Is it getting easier for you and secondly, are you on plan or just using Sober Recovery for support?
Thanks!

There you guys go again with all the support
Hi Rosco,
Is it getting easier? You Bet! The last couple months have been wonderful, with only occasional urges or sneaky little thoughts about drinking appearing out of nowhere. When people say it only gets better with time, they're telling the truth.
Am I on a plan? Nope. I read quite a few scientific research and articles when I first quit which helped me understand how alcohol had taken over my life, and what to expect from my body and mind as they adjusted to no more alcohol entering my system. I also realized that remaining sober was entirely in my own hands, and not the responsibility of anyone or anything else. I was the one who would or wouldn't choose to get up, go buy some booze, bring it home, open it, pour some into a glass, raise it to my lips, then drink it. Lots of chances there to say no, and all up to me.
Early on whenever I thought about drinking I would replace the image of a bottle with that of an open mouthed, drooling Komodo Dragon. They're lizards up to 150 pounds that have virulent bacteria in their saliva which causes blood poisoning after one bite. It can take a water buffalo over a week to die of the blood poisoning, and as it weakens more and more Komodo Dragons appear. Eventually the buffalo becomes too weak to fight back, and they eat it alive. A truly ugly painful death, and one that for me mirrors dying from long term alcohol use. When it comes to drinking, one equals many, and just like that first Komodo Dragon's bite, your sure as dead...eventually.
On a bright and happy note - this website has carried me this far, and there's no intention of ever drifting away from it!!! My wife is a rock, and that helps beyond measure.

Hi Murray!
Thanks for that tip on the "drooling Komodo Dragon". I've just started to collect little pieces of advice to help me and this is going to be one of them!
All the best and thanks for the response.
