Quitting last week saved my life tonight

If I didn’t quit drinking last week I could’ve been dead tonight. My choice of poison: Chardonnay or Vodka and a pack of Parliament’s Lights. When I drink I only drink on my outside patio. Even on the coldest days I drink on my outside patio, rainy days included. I hardly ever drank in the house, I’d go in the house to get a refresh – but that was about it. Drinking on my outside patio allowed me to chain smoke and get fresh air all at the same time.

Tonight an SUV drove through my patio – taking down a handicap sign on the way in. He took down my backyard fence and landed smack dab in the seating space where I’d be sitting throwing back drinks and chain smoking. He drove through at the exact time I enjoyed my nightly cocktails.

God is Good. Enough said.

I'm sorry that you had that happen to your patio, but I'm really glad you're unharmed.
I hope the driver is ok too...

The driver is fine. They just got their Drivers Liscense and couldnt figure out their gas pedal from break pedal. Tonight was meaningful to me. For the past year I've sitting outside drinking till I pass out. i feel so blessed. Everyone is OK. the backyard can be repaired.

Are you ok???? That's a bit scary. Glad to know you wren't sitting there. Did it damage your home too? Hopefully everything can be repaired. Thankfully you were not injured.

It is amazing. Things so jolting don't really happen to us. Total fluke. The patio was my go-to spot. Undoubtly I would've been sitting there - unless I was using the restroom.

thanks for your words! this place has help keep feeling good.

I'm so glad you weren't sitting out there, drinking or not. YOu're right that 'things' can be repaired or replaced - lives cannot.

I've heard of higher powers sending us messages, but that was pretty blunt!

Glad everyone is ok.

Properrty destruction aside, your story made me smile. You done got Godsmacked, honey! I had the same sit outside, drink wine, chain smoke routine. I'm glad I'm inside where it's warm and you weren't mowed down.

Your kitty is adorable.

Divine Intervention ya' think?

when you rebuild your patio/ backyard area, it will be fresh and new with no old *things* to remind you what you spent time doing out there. A fresh start...for both you and kitty (who is sooo beautiful too).

congrats on quitting and staying committed, keep posting.
