nice idea on class of december... Day 5. I am glad we picked such a tough month for sobriety. Christmas parties.... Christmas, family stress, New Years.. I have a lot of anxiety and awkward soberness to deal with. Maybe by the end Sober wont' feel so awkward and foreign.

Day 1 for me too. I can feel myself failing already as I have so many social things booked this month, family parties, picnics, wine tours and even a weeks holiday all of which would normally (revolve) include alcohol.
Do I except that I will fail but just do my best? I don't want to join thus thread if you think I will bring you all down with me!

Alone
*everyone's* lives here revolved around alcohol.
Drinking's obviously been causing you problems.
The way I see it (and I admit it took me a long time to get there) you either draw a line in the sand and say no more....or you go along hoping something might change but not really doing anything to make that change happen.
Choose the second way and I guarantee things will get worse.
Choosing recovery means making changes - it should mean letting those closest to you know what's going on, it can mean not doing some of the things you used to do for a while, it can mean maybe changing your circle of friends.
It can be damn hard work, but man it's worth it - believe me on that. Look around - there's a lot of happy people on SR
Only you can decide if you're ready for this - but you'll find all the support you need if you are.

stay strong northland.
I dunno about you, but I never drank like anyone else LOL.
There's a technique called play the tape through to the end, which I find useful...
push past the ideas we all have of how 'nice' it would be...force yourself to remember the reality....think about the times you drank and where you ended up after deciding to drink...think about the bad times.
you can do this northland

And thanks to staying sober, I'm one of 'em. Nearly a year ago I had my LAST Day One. And day by day it got better. Never mind the holiday parties and the holiday stress, stay sober and you won't be making any additional stress.... or any other bad things.
Welcome to all the December people! And, yes, December is a hard month in which to stop drinking, but look at it this way. If you can get through December, the rest will seem easy.

Great job, fdsajkll. I understand anxiety and trouble sleeping. It's something I am trying to address as well. I have a list of suggestions from someone but I don't quite follow through. Lifestyle changes are difficult. We'll get there.

It's day 3 for me also. I was at my local supermarket today, the alcohol aisles were so tempting, especially with many offers and such for Christmas, but I thought no, walked on to the bakery. Also had a walk today in a local park. It's felt good getting some fresh air and exercise. I still feel anxious though and in need of a drink, but I won't allow it. I go to my first AA meeting tomorrow.
I hope you do too Dave

I don't have alcohol in my grocery stores Michael - I can imagine that would be rough - but every time you do it and get through it hopefully it will be easier
