Losing a furry loved one

OK, so, it's just a cat, right? Shouldn't be so hard, it's just a cat, right?

No, it's like losing a child. Fuzzy has "hyper thyroid" and the meds didnt help. She stopped eating last Sunday. She can still walk, but not to well. I could put her to sleep, but I can't afford it!

It would be so easy to pick up a bottle and just drown it all out. But, I have the resolve, I'm not going to do that. Just wanted to vent.

Better to vent on here, than to resort to a bottle.

It's not just a cat. As you can see from my avatar my cats are my dearest friends.

Please do what you can to end the animal's suffering. Do you have a veterinary college nearby, or a vet you could call on to explain your situation and ask for help in ending the cat's pain.

Animals are there for us no matter what happens to us in life. They are as important as family in my opinion. Please take Anna's advice.

Sorry to hear of this. It is hard to lose our pets because we become so attached to them. Our pets aren't just pets, they're part of our family. My condolences go out to you friend. High fives for not picking up the bottle, we know it won't fix our problems but in fact make them worse.

I'm sorry Chris. I just had to put down a very old friend of mine earlier this week.

I'm with others and I might call a vet anyway, explain your situation. If they don't provide free services I'm sure there is one animal lover out there who can help you out.

And no, it's not "just a cat." It's fuzzy family.

I love my dog. He is so important in my life. The only other time I've experienced love like this is with my kids. The feeling of loss when it comes to a furry family member is real. It's okay to feel the grief and sorrow associated with the loss.

Whoever suggested trying to find a vetrinary school that can help you is a really good idea. They can be compassionate, caring and very understanding and more than willing to help and in return you are helping them.

I hope you can find some peace and comfort cottonwood. xoxo

It IS like losing a child - a furry child. Oh how well I know how hard it is. Your vet won't let you pay for euthanasia in payments? I'd ask if they'd allow that so kitty can go peacefully and not have to suffer at all.

Sounds like Fuzzy was blessed to be your cat.

My cat has the same condition so I know what you’re going through. Try contacting your local Humane Society, they may know a low cost vet that can help you. Stay strong, I know how hard it can be.

I'm sorry. No, it's not "just a cat", of course not. She's family.

I second the suggestion to call the HS if you can't find a vet who will work with you. The one in my county will euthanise for $10....better for your cat, and for you, if you can find a way to not let her linger in pain or confusion.

Play the tape all the way through....you can drown out your sorrows tonight, but they (and your cat) will still be there in the morning.

So sorry to hear that. It is so hard to lose a pet, I know mine are like my bestfriends. They are always there for you. Usually the vet will not make you pay right there and they billl later, at least mine does. Because they want you to be able to just leave at that moment and not cause more heartache by making you stick around to pay a bill. And it is not just a cat, it is your family and you have every right to feel like you do. As the parent of two dogs, a cat and a hamster, as well as the owner of a pet sitting business, I totally get it.

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts. I went to my normal vet, he saw me right away, and we put Fuzzy to sleep. He also gave me a huge break on the cost. This guy, I have been taking all of my cats to for years, what a great person.

I don't think Fuzzy was ever in any pain, just wasting away. I was suffering more than she was, I think. It didn't take more than 5 seconds for whatever they use to put an animal to sleep, to take her out. She's in a better place now. RIP, my Fuzzy Girl.

I just put down one of my ferrets this past week. It was very hard to do. I understand how it hurts. It was hard to say goodbye. I still miss her as she was the lover of the group and loved to snuggle and cuddle and give kisses to my other ferrrets. Just because its the right decision doesn't make it any easier. My prayers are with you now.

I'm sorry....it's never easy. It's good that your vet was willing to work with you though.

(((hugs))))
