Feeling more Confident
Feeling more Confident
Well, today's day 14 and I'm feeling more and more confident that I can stay off the beer.
I'm not sure how long it's been since I stayed off it for two weeks. I do know that I stayed off it for 6 months about 7 or 8 years ago but feel I'll surpass that this time round.
I know that Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming up which may be tough. I'm using Thanksgiving as the test run of sobriety before Christmas. At the end of the day, Christmas/New Years isn't even a week so it seems rediculous to even worry about it.
Another optimistic way of looking at it is that if you make it through Christmas, you'll have more confidence to stay off it all next year. After all, if you make it through the biggest drinking holiday of the year, why should there be a problem staying off it on a random friends birthday, going away party, etc.

Congrats on your 14 days sobriety and your determination to make it through the holidays. Hope you have established a good support system to help you on your way. Don't allow yourself to be put in risky situations where alcohol is a major theme. Being sober during the holidays is a wonderful experience. I remember waking up on Christmas morning without a hangover for the first time in years and how nice it felt to enjoy the whole day.
Good Luck

Glad you're feeling better itsabouttime
I know its hard not to think of upcoming holidays but try and not run away with yourself too much - every day between now and then is a chance to shore up your sobriety a little more, become more comfortable with being sober, and make some definite tangible plans to get through the holidays sober and happy.
Like Dime said, a sober Xmas is pretty darn special

Good for you on 14 days sober!
My suggestion for getting through the Holidays sober, is to shake things up. Make some new traditions for yourself and your family this year so that things are a bit different.

Stay positive
I'm 13 days sober, don't think i've ever done that since i was in my 30's, 15 years ago!!!
I too am feeling confident, but i don't want to get ahead of myself, so it's one day at a time for me.
I agree with what you said about christmes and new year, i've nominated myself as driver so hopefully that will keep me in order!!!
Take care, all the best for thanksgiving
