Newcomer on Day 4

Hello All,
my first post here. I am on day 4 here and am grateful that I didn't stop on my way home yesterday for a drink, I surely felt like it and had some strange and twisted thoughts about how I might as well start this whole sobriety thing after Christmas... I rushed home and closed the gate behind me. Once at home I was fine. I must remember this. I know: had I caved in and had that glass (or more) I wouldn't be here today. I'd be feeling bad and ashamed and be drinking tonight again.

Will add more information to my profile.
take care all

Good for you for not caving in to the urge to drink! I've relapsed too many times to count and each time it was harder to get back to being sober. I'm so glad you stayed sober! And I wish many more sober days for you. It's really worth it.

Welcome to the family!

Hi and Welcome,

I'm glad you found us and good for you for not listening to the addict-voice.

Welcome Vee Tee

Don't listen to that voice - apart from anything else, a sober Christmas, remembering everything in perfect clarity, being there for those who love us and not feeling ashamed or regretful, is a truly wonderful thing

Sobriety is a big change, it comes with a lot of anxiety that first week or two (don't I know it--day two here.) But it'll keep fading. We can rationally grasp that sobriety is good for us but our brains don't adjust as fast as our will.

Welcome veetee!

I'm on day 3, so I know how you feel. And I know there are a few others that are just starting to get sober. I know it definitely helps me to come here and read and post when I'm feeling the urge. Yesterday I even stayed up until 4am in the chat room. Everyone here has been incredibly welcoming. Let me know if you need anything. I think the more of us newbies who band together and try to help each other the more successful we'll all be. I know I always do better when I'm held accountable

Good Luck!
