Soberity... Who Knew?... MY White Chip..

You know... I don't think I would have made it this far without SR. I joined this website almost 2 years ago... when I really really wanted to stop drinking. But, it took a really long time for me to really GET what it would take to make that committement.

In one of my first AA meetings... a man said to me "the only requirement to join AA is the DESIRE to stop drinking..." So, I would keep attending AA meetings... and I saw these people... and I really wanted what they had. I had no idea how to go about getting it. But, DAMN did I ever have the desire to stop drinking... until friday or satuarday night rolled around.

It wasn't until I got a sponser about 6 weeks ago... that I learned what it mean to start working for my soberity.... I am here today to say I am grateful for the work I have to put in. I think it is the work that will keep me sober this time.

I am grateful to SR... and I am grateful to every ear I have talked off (Dallas) while I was drunk... and trying to figure it out.

You all rock.

Thank you everyone for your support.

Today I can say my name is Saliena and I grateful recovering drunk.

-S

Forgot to add... this past Sat I stood up and took my white chip. I had been attending AA for 7 weeks and hadn't taken that step... now I am really ready to work for it...

When I began my formal AA Steps....I felt a shift
from sometimes shakey sobriety into solid recovery.....

I'm hoping that will also be your experience
Good to know you are heading in that direction

All my best

I was so thrilled to get my ten month chip at my last meeting. I've decided that I'm going to make a clock out of them when I've gotten up to 12 months!! And have decided to give that clock to my wonderful addiction counselor for a daily reminder of how far I've come since first seeing her three years ago, drunk and arrogant and unwilling to change.

Those little chips mean a lot to me as a visible reminder of how far I've come on this sober journey.... and how much I've changed for the better. It took me quite a while to actually get serious about getting and staying sober, but it's so worth it now.

Congrats and big hugs to you!!

What an awesome post!

I know for me, I had to simply get out of my own way and once I became willing to actually participate in my own recovery and work 12 simple steps, I got better day-by-day. Seems so obvious now, but I didn't get it at first either.

Congratulations!

Boy do I recognize myself there least! Recovery for me has meant willingness to change. I never knew that. I always thought there was only one way-

Way to go Saliena!!

The white chip is actually an aid to help you deal with cravings, if you have strong cravings to drink, you take the white chip out of your pocket and put it in your mouth, and once it dissolves, you should be past your cravings, lol.

That's great news and made my day!!

The white chip is the "24 Hour" chip, or the "Desire" chip--it means you are on your way and have a desire not to drink.

Awesome! It can only get BETTER if you keep going back because
it does work (when you work it).
