The Friday night entertainment

Hi everyone, felt like I wanted to share this. I've just cancelled out my Friday night with mates, just felt I didn't/couldn't/shouldn't go. I felt that if I went it would just tempt me seriously to drink and I don't want that life again. I haven't told them its coz I'm not drinking, even though they know my situation, I've just said I can't make it. This is a momentous decision for me in my first step to my new life as I was the all time party girl out on a Friday nite and getting blasted no matter what. My sobriety is too important to endanger, I've thought it through as they saying goes, played the tape to the end, and don't want that any more. Loving this new life so much without booze. Any comments, please, Lillyknitting xx

I think that's an awesome choice to make Lily - enjoy your sober night tonight, whatever you end up doing

you've made a POSITIVE choice...it might feel different at first, but you will wake up in the AM very glad that you did and ready to embrace the day instead of feeling physically nd mentally bad.

Success means putting your recovery foremost in our lives. You're doing that! Just think, you'll have all of Saturday to enjoy.

Nice job on that choice! Its hard to make often times but trust me tonight you will be grateful, as well as tomorrow morning. I had to do this until I felt comfortable going out again. Once my freinds and family figured out what was going on with me, things were a lot better. No more pressures etc. And, I didnt just jump back into my old social scene. Sometimes I went out but caught up with freinds later in the night and left earlier. Its all an adjustment and recognizing when you need to pass on some things is a great insight.

All the best to you.

I agree waking up with no hanger ROCKS. Sober life is way better then a hot night of boozen. One thing to help me not want to drink is, call them in the morning and listen to how the night went and how they feel like POOP:c011

Smart move--do something nice to treat yourself.

You can do anything but hang out with drinkers. That leaves quite a few possibilities.

Way to take care of yourself, Lilly!! I know that wasn't easy, but it was EXTREMELY smart! I'm learning, too. Thinking I could handle it while out with friends has been my downfall. Tonight I'm going to a meeting instead.

Enjoy the bright & clear-headed weekend you have in store!

I think it's a grand choice. Don't let the world pressure you into letting that door open. Those who are unlike us just sometimes don't fully understand - you have a right to be selfish in protecting your sobriety.
