Codependent crazies!!!
Codependent crazies!!!
I was so mad at myself for attempting to contact my XABF after 5 weeks of no contact.
I wrote about it here and received alot of support from SR, thanks!
Today, I started reading Melody Beattie's book "Beyond Codependency" and she called what I was going thru the codependent crazies.
She said instead of calling what I did a relapse, to call it "recycling".
Oftentimes, changing circumstances can trigger the crazies, such as a move, ending a significant relationship, a shift in daily routines, etc. All of these things have happened to me recently. Along with experiencing a trigger, which for me was receiving homegrown produce that brought back fond memories of my XABF's cooking. Well, I just went into autopilot....
Melody says during these "crazy" times, it is important to devote more energy to self-care, something I wasn't doing so well (sleeplessness, overworking, junk food diet, no exercise, no fun)
I wanted to pass this along to those who are feeling low, ashamed, guilty or just plain bad about themselves to think about practicing the following things:
acceptance
surrender
detachment
removing ourselves as the victim
dealing with feelings
setting boundaries
making choices
setting goals
being honest
letting go
and... giving ourselves huge doses of love and nurturing!
