First Post, 8 days in!!!!!
After 25 years of punching myself in the head by drinking half a case of beer or more every night. I quit! Eight days in and I finally had a good night of sleep. I quit on my own and want to keep it up. Not sure if AA is my thing though.
Nice to be sober!

AWE-SOME, LTC!!! Congrats on 8 days, that's huge! You'll find AA fans and non-AA fans here at SR...I'm one of the fans, myself, so may I suggest you at least try a meeting or two? You might be pleasantly surprised and how much you enjoy it and how much it helps.
Keep coming back and sharing at SR...we've got your back!

Congratulations on your 8 days! This is a great place to come for support, especially when those urges creep up on you and you need some friends who understand (and can talk you out of drinking).
Even if you don't go to AA, I recommend getting the book Alcoholics Anonymous - it the classic, you know!! Keep reading and posting, too - you'll find lots of ways to help you live sober and enjoy it.

Welcomeand congrats on 8 days...when I made it that far it was a big deal for me since I had never before made it past 7. I have found SR a tremendous help especially since I don't have any interest in AA or f2f...everyone is different though..I think that is the beauty of SR, we all come from different viewpoints but all get along (for the most part;-)

Thank You!
Thanks Everyone!
This is the first I've really talked to anyone so I guess AA couldn't be much harder... Anyway found some meetings in the area and might go. I had a couple of tough triggers Fri and Sat. Friday I sat down and watched a football sober for the first time since I was a teen. Yesterday I attended a friends house warming party were EVERYONE was drinking. I didn't get questioned or pressured because they all know I work weekends, but that would not have stopped me in the past. I feel good and want top continue feeling good.
Thank You,
Jeff

G'day Jeff,
Good work mate. I'm in a similar situation to you. About 25 years of the insanity of it all. I'm on day 68 and have not felt the need for AA. I visit this site everyday and without fail learn something new or am reminded of why I can not go back, (I do need to post more though). Thanks to this site my life continues to turn around in quite an amazing way. I actually have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure it's all real. Anyway congratulations!

Good for you Jeff! I quit 3 yrs ago this month on my own and never used a formal program (not that there is anything wrong with programs...) it can successfully be done and SR is a great place to to get and give support on your decision to live life free.
good luck to you. After a major event, (the wedding of my husband's favorite cousin), I plan on stopping. (I drink anywhere from 2 to 6 beers a day.......down from the 8 a day I used to drink before rehab....but still drinking almost daily). I HATE doctors.....always have and always will.....so I plan on doing this alone......have my fingers crossed for both of us.....
good luck d(-_-)b
