Day 2

I want to thank everyone for welcoming me here yesterday. I managed to drive home from work today without hittin' the liquor store. Tonight I'll be going to bed sober!

Good goin', Chip.

Believe it or not, that's how people get those ten-year chips. Going to bed sober, one day at a time.

Way to go Chip - every day counts!! Especially those first few days, because they seem a little strange and LONG. It really helped me to keep that hangover-free morning feeling in mind and know that I would be so glad in the morning that I got through another evening sober.

That's great! I'm on day 2 also! I'm glad I found this site. It's helping me tremendously. Today is a little tougher than yesterday but I'm determined not to let things get to me.

Today is day 2 <again> for me as well. Seems like I can only get about 2 or 3 weeks then I slip but I asked someone to be my sponsor last night and I am willing to work even harder to get it right. Congrats, good luck, and we are right here with you.

Erem and Jenn, congratulations also for making it 2 days. Jenn, like you, I've never stayed sober beyond 2 or 3 weeks. I'm going to continue to post everyday until I break through this terrible habit of drinking after work. Best wishes to you both. Here's to a happier future.

After a relapse, I'm at Day 2 as well. Wanna power our way to Day 3? I'm there if you are.

Not really, Lexiecat. That's how many non-alcoholics in AA get those 10 yr chips. Alkies who try that generally return to drinking in 2-3 weeks, or months, or even a year or two.

I get what you're saying; long term sobriety is made up of a bunch of days going to bed sober.

But look at Chip and Jenn. They both have a bunch of experience of doing exactly what they are doing today, exactly what they are being encouraged to do, and returning to drinking in 2-3 weeks.

And what are we telling them? 'Oh yeah, do that, that leads to long term sobriety, that works great,' when all of their own past experience tells them it doesn't work at all.

The alcoholics that pick up those 10 year chips have one thing in common. They have followed the path thoroughly. That means taking the 12 Steps and continuing to live by those spiritual principles.

My goal is to not return to drinking at all! I'm just sick of it. Drinking has cost me probably more than I realize, but thank God I still have faith, family and friends, including my brethern and sistern on this site.

I'll be tempted to drink after work today--but I will not do it!

you can both power your way through this day and beyond. however you choose to do so, keep your resolve and have a plan/thoughts in place for when/if the craving hits.

have an activity to do after work that doesn't involve drinking, something enjoyable. start to appreciate your sobriety and all that comes with it...better health and mental clarity.

Craving hit a couple of moments ago and I was totally unprepared for it! Have a plan in place you say?? ... I didn't have a plan but I did realize it hit me all of a sudden and came on here.

for me it was to have a few *emergency plans* in my head as to how to distract myself until the craving passed....I think one of the moderators (Anna)? mentioned that it only takes 7 mins. for it to pass...i grabbed onto that thought and made sure i either left the house on foot to walk it off, started a cleaning project or went shopping.

SR log-ons were also my support program. it helps tremendously, there is a lot of educational information and a lot of different ways people cope...one of my biggest motivators is the Gratitude threads...i've come to realize that I am very fortunate.
