Good news, re: my friend and her ABF!
So...I mentioned in my previous posts...my xabf has a friend who is a hardcore alcoholic. Well, my last conflict w/my xabf inadvertently ended up in a situation where his friend decided to finally get help.
He has now been sober for almost a week! He decided not to go into treatment, but he's been working very closely with his sponsor and attending meetings.
My friend is going to al-anon. I went to a meeting with her last night, and I found it SO helpful and comforting. It was a woman's step meeting. Everyone was so nice, and so positive and welcoming.
Last night, my friend and her bf had a Thanksgiving ritual to celebrate the changes that are taking place. I thought this was a great idea.
As I told my friend, there are so many rituals surrounding drinking. so many holidays focused on it. I like the idea that they are creating their own sober rituals as they both work toward healing.
I cannot help feeling a little wistful, wishing my xabf was also getting help, but I am gradually letting go of that.
