Book recommendations?

I am just starting my second week of sobriety, and am interested in hearing from others about any books that helped them in their recovery. My one recommendation is "Drinking, A Love Story" by Caroline Knapp. I read this book in the last month and it was part of what brought me to putting the bottle down and attempting quitting. I have seen this book mentioned on here by others as well, it's very powerful. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I have read that book by Caroline Knapp twice, Super. It's amazing. I have a few others in my collection --- An Uncommon Drunk, Mindful Recovery and Sober for Good.. will check out the thread for other ideas as well.

I am reading this book right now called "The Gargoyle" by Andrew Davidson. It isn't necessarily about sobriety, but it has brought me a lot of strength, and is one of those books that you CAN'T put down.

For me, it's been easier to read books that provide a distraction to the feelings I am fighting.

I still need to read the Knapp book..

I really liked (as controversial as it is..) The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure by Prentiss. Made sense to me when nothing else seemed to.

One book I like to refer back to is: Many Roads, One Journey, Moving Beyond the 12 Steps, by Charlotte Davis Kasl, Ph.D.

I'm reading Mindfulness in Plain English. It really is chilling me out, but it's weird, it takes effort to really relax. It is helping me, it may help you.

Thanks to all for the recommendations! I have a big list now and am excited to get on Amazon and order. I loved Drinking, A love Story.. so if "If I die..." was even better, I am definitely going to check that one out. I have read a number of the ones recommended.. "Dry" by Augesten Burroughs is one of my favorites - as are all of his books. I think I will also order a copy of the AA book, even if AA doesn't end up being for me I am sure the book will be a great guide. I am going to keep this list and work my way down it. Thanks guys

"Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot" by John Callahan. You may recognize his name as a cartoonist of some really funny, but twisted cartoons. It's his story of getting sober after breaking his neck in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the shoulders down.

I've always enjoyed his cartoons and his story is so good! I don't know if it's still in print but it can be found in the library.

Well worth looking for and an excellent read!

Love,

Lenina

Beyond the Influence by Katherine Ketchum & William Asbury

Very detailed book about the drug alcohol and what it does to the body, and alcoholism and what it is and the different stages.

It certainly made me wonder why I ever put the stuff in my body
