God’s grace has shined on me today.
I’m pending a court date for my 2nd dui and b/c it’s coming up soon, I finally decided to tell my bosses what is going on.
I told them I’m an alcoholic and that I finally came to this conclusion about a year ago…right about the time I started with them. I’m facing my 2nd dui charge and should expect a few weeks jail time (among other things). I also told them I’m in AA, on step 8, I did 4 months outpatient therapy, and that I think I’ve found a solution to my alcoholism.
I’ve been FULL of FEAR ever since I sobered up and realized that I’m going to need to tell my company. It’s not the highest paying job, in fact, it’s my lowest wage in over 10 years, but it’s important to me to be and remain employable.
Instead of getting fired (which, of course is what I expected) – I was shown love and support. They are behind me 100% and it turns out one of their business colleagues who is helping us right now is also a recovering alcoholic.
God’s grace has shined on me today. You’ve no idea on weight that has been lifted off my shoulders.

That's awesome, thanx for sharing. Now that I am employed, after being self employed, I too had to inform my new employers, for unavoidable reasons. It was met with understanding and support as well.

Kjell, that is fantastic news!
I am really happy for you and I know it is a huge weight off your heart and mind.
It's also encouraging for the rest of us to hear that some employers can be compassionate and supportive.

It takes courage and strength to do what you did today. I think any reasonable person would greatly admire you for doing that. No one is without problems...it's just hard to admit our own!

That's great news, Kjell.
Many businesses, and even medical professionals, have yet to get it.
It's wonderful when our efforts at turning our lives around are recognized and supported and when "God is doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves..."

One of the best things that happened to me was when I admitted to myself and others I was an addict. Great relief of your shoulders. People dont look down on you and will usually help you.

Ill 2nd the way cool. Actually that is sooooo way kool! It's amazing and rewarding when it all starts falling into place. Life's ups and downs become manageable hills instead of Everests.

Last night as I was thinking about what happened today and I had this feeling, this really strange sensation where I wasn't so worried about things and that things may just be ok after all. Yep, I had hope. It felt good!

I came clean with my boss while I was going through withdrawal. He gave me information about the EAP my company has. He also gave me 4 days off with more time if needed. Most people will be decent about if you don't ******** them. You have to remember almost everyone has a loved one with some type of addiction. There aren't 300 AA meetings in this city alone for nothing.
