Unhappy "But for every time that we spent laughing, there were 2 times that I cried"

That is one of the lyrics from an old song by Jim Croce called "Lover's Cross".

It hit me.

I was miserable with my ex but somehow I am more miserable with out him. For now anyway. We try *SO* hard to hold onto those moments of laughter and try to it make up for the times we cry but it doesn't really work. We try to make ourselves blind to the fact that we're spending 95 percent of the time in tears. You should be with someone who makes you happy, we all want that. But when you love someone, it is so hard to let go because sometimes no matter how badly someone is hurting us letting go hurts even worse. And it does. Letting go is probably the most painful thing in the world (especially if you're co-dependent) but in the end it'll be like a wound that can heal instead of staying with someone who makes you so unhappy.
