The ability to see into the future...
... is a super-human ability I always wanted since I was a kid.
Last week, I realized I somehow received just a little bit of that ability when I went out for a business dinner. A celebration of sorts. No expense spared. Japanese wagyu steaks, wine, and cigars.
We started out with champagne, I opted for a 0.00% Japanese n.a. beer (I already had downed 3 iced teas at the bar). The wine selected by the host included some truly amazing choices.
Normally the "old me" -still would not have drunk alcohol - but would have remained very tempted throughout the evening to do so. However, something different happened - very quickly I could somehow immediately "see into the future" what would happen if I decided to join the others:
1) I would have ended up drinking the lion's share of the wine and probably added another 3 more bottles plus after-dinner whiskies to go with the cigars
2) I would have had a great time - but the last hour or so would have been a blur in terms of memory. Certainly staggerworthy.
3) If in a good mood, I probably would have rallied everyone to a second venue like a jazz club or cigar bar to get home around 0400.
4) The next morning there would be Hell to pay with the Mother of All Hangovers that would have extended into the next day... morphing into the Mother of All Regrets.
All that (future) insight in virtually one split-second. It allowed me to have a truly great evening without any mental squirming or regrets.
