And here it is...6 months for WakeUp!

In a few hours my sobriety calculator will turn to 180 days alcohol FREE!!! Yeah!
Wow, this period between 5-6 months were rough. Thoughts of drinking raged inside my head. But they're just thoughts, and I don't listen to them and they go away. I must have been going through a PAWS cycle or something.

So thank you all, even though I get busy and can't catch up on reading/responding to the posts. For you newcomers, hang in there,
it is worth it!

XOXOXO

Great job! Glad to know that even after 5 months, the desire to drink can still come up. It's nice to know what to expect so that it won't take me by surprise. Can't wait until I can say "6 months" too.

Thumbs up

Yeah thats great, I am on day six and hearing you say to hang in there and that it is worth it...is eactly what I needed to hear this morning.

May I ask what types of support you used to get to the 6 moths mark? This time around I am using a lot more resources than ever before but in the past (except for the ENTIRE time I was pregnant and didnt drink or use) I never got past 30 days in my entore adult life w/out "celebrating" (by drinking) just after day 30 so do you mind tellingm e how you got over any time perionds or maybe like you said between the 5-6 moth mark that was hard for you? What did you do or tools did you rely on to stay clean?

Thank you and CONGRATULATIONS, I am so very proud of you and hope to one day be announcing my 6 moths too! <3 Dream

Dream-
I use a "holistic" approach to recovery. Mind, body, spirit. I am primarily an AAer, but also dabble in the SMART recovery system also. SR is also a huge support system, as everyone knows I'm not the greatest meeting goer. I go to one AA meeting a week, my homegroup. I had a horrible time with the sponsorship process at first but finally found a wonderful sponsor.

I also keep my spiritual practice up and try to eat right, manage stress, excersice. All the things we should do anyway, right?

As for the hard times in the fifth month, some people believe PAWS can follow the lunar cycle. That's why, the theory goes, a lot of relapses happen at 30, 90 days and at six months, and 1 year. I was like, "Ohhh, the sixth month mark, can I make it?"
And here I am!

(((WakeUp))) - CONGRATULATIONS!!

Sounds like you have a good recovery program going on! I was told, early on, to expect "flares" at certain anniversary dates, even as late as 18 months, so I just prepared to feel a little "wierd" around my anniversary dates and pulled closer to my support peeps. I have a little over 3 years, and when the rare thought of "I want to get numb" comes up, my mind automatically goes to "not an option..next?", which for me means to distract myself and reach out for support.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy
