Hello
Hey all, decided to join this forum today after reading a few posts that showed some true compassion. I decided to get sober 7 days ago after going hardly 10 days combined without alcohol in the past 7 years. The amount was all over the place and often fluctuated with my stress level. As of lately it was about 5-6 drinks a night.
The cravings come and go and are intense at times. Aside from the cravings I seem to have 5x more energy right away and a clearer mind which has greatly helped me stay clean. Now that I look back, I was hooked the moment I tasted my first beer. I had tons of people warn me due to my family history but like all fools I had to learn the hard way. Anyway, glad to have found a site such as this.

Welcome to SR Unf0rgiven6262
I've been on many sites and this is one of the best, if not the best
Congratulations of your week - that's a great start!
You'll find a lot of support here - I look forward to seeing you around

Hi unforgiven! Welcome to SR. I have found great support here, and I hope you will, too.
I was drinking about the same amount as you were around the time I quit (last month) and I also had seen huge fluctuations in the amount over the years, and, like you, had very rarely quit for more than a few days. I also had heavy family history. Everyone here has different stories, but I wanted to jump in immediately since ours sound similar based on this. Of course, these similarities are not as important as the similarity we share with people of all different experiences here -- which is the desire to be in recovery and help each other along the way.
I am very glad to hear you are already experiencing a better state of mind and energy. That's wonderful, as are your seven days of sobriety. Congratulations, and again, welcome.

Welcome to SR! You will find plenty of support and info. Those early days are rough with the withdrawals but it does get better ---- so much better.
Keep going and definitely have support and a program of recovery in place to help see you through.
All the best.

Hey Unforgiven....have you been to any AA meetings? If you haven't I think they would be really good for you. To have the support of the fellowship to help you in your journey.
Welcome to SR :-)

Hi Unforgiven!
I am also brand new to the site and on my 4th sober day after 28 years of being drunk. This is my second serious attempt. I know what you mean about the increase in energy. It really hit me today. It actually feels good. Although I feel like I've had about 12 cups of coffee!
I'll keep an eye on you if you do the same.
G'night!
Ernie.
