Withdrawal symptoms

Well, less than 30 minutes and I'll have a week's sobriety. I can't tell you all how much you've helped me get through these first 7 days. You are my angels!

About withdrawal symptoms: This past year I've have quite a few bad hangovers. I've had hangovers in past years too, but I was starting to suffer other symptoms that I'd never had and really didn't think were related to my drinking. After I came here and decided to get sober, I learned alot about the physical/mental stuff I was going through (and would probably have to experience in the coming days) from reading everyone's posts. Still, some of the withdrawal symptoms took me by surprise, so I did a little research on it.

I found a pretty good and straightfoward list of withdrawal symptoms and thought I would share this (if it's OK with everyone here - I'm sure there are other lists available, too), just because I think it might be interesting for people in early recovery like myself. (I think it's helpful in alot ways, to understand what we're going through, to know what's coming if we don't stop, and to remember why we really don't want to do this again).
Thanks!

This doesn't include the very severe withdrawal symptoms, just the "basics." Still they are bad enough.

Withdrawal Symptoms:
Psychological symptoms:
• Feeling of jumpiness or nervousness
• Feeling of shakiness
• Anxiety
• Irritability or easily excited
• Emotional volatility, rapid emotional changes
• Depression
• Fatigue
• Difficulty with thinking clearly
• Bad dreams
Physical symptoms:
• Headache - general, pulsating
• Sweating
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Insomnia, sleeping difficulty
• Paleness
• Rapid heart rate (palpitations)
• Eyes, pupils different size (enlarged, dilated pupils)
• Skin, clammy
• Abnormal movements
• Tremor of the hands
• Involuntary, abnormal movements of the eyelids

To add to this list:
• High Blood Pressure
• Auditory or visual hallucinations
• Seizures
• Death

I experienced all but the last 2.

Alcohol withdrawal is the deadliest of all withdrawals. If you are a heavy drinker and are quitting, please seek medical help.

And just think - if you stop drinking you never have to go thru that torture again.
