Someone killed one of my cats last night

All of my cats were strays that I took in, and most were kittens at the time.

It's been next to impossible to keep them inside 24/7. They generally stay in the driveway, back yard, or under the big oak tree out front where the squirrel feeder is. They are all in and out all day in nice weather, and inside during bad/cold weather.

One of my smallest cats, Scout, was on the back steps with me last night around 6. There's a small spot under the fence where they can squeeze in and out of the back yard.

Later on, the dogs and I hadn't been back inside from potty break more than 5-10 minutes, and I heard a horrible noise on the back porch that I KNEW was an injured cat.

Somehow Scout had managed to squeeze under the fence before collapsing on the back porch.

Amber and I rushed her to the vet's immediately.

That's when we found the small hole in her back from being shot by a pellet gun.

She died shortly after we left the vet's.

X-rays showed the pellet was huge, and had lodged in her abdomen. The vet said with a pellet that large, it probably severed a main blood supply. Her lungs filled with blood.

A police report has been filed, and thank God we ended up with a very nice officer who has pets of his own.

A reward is being put up for any information leading to the arrest of whatever hideous person did this. It's not much, so who knows if anyone will come forward.

It HAD to be someone in close proximity. My cats never go far because they are in and out dozes of times each day.

I know of no one on my immediate street who would do this.

I am mad as hell, heartbroken, and sick.

Freedom,

That is just horrible! I am so sorry for your loss. Anyone who kills a pet is sick. I hope the police find this sick, disgusting creature and bring him to justice. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Love,

Lenina

Humans don't even treat other humans with dignity, now animals? its too much to ask for some people.

I don't wish bad things to the person who did this... being him is punishment enough.

At least little kitten did not suffer much time.

Hugs to you Freedom, you have gone through many losses lately. Kitty knew you loved her.

She knew where love was... she made it home... you did your best.

Heaven help the person that did this... You may or may not find out who did this... but rest assured...they will answer to God.

Sorry for your loss.

((hugs))

I understand your loss well and I am so very sorry!!

I live in a rural area and it is far too common an occurrance for pets to be gunned down or even run down with a vehicle on purpose. Accidents do happen of course, but incidents are written off frequently by town authorities. Even when complaints are lodged the assailants often get away with it by claiming they were just protecting chickens or other lifestock.

I have a terrible time keeping my cats contained, too. It's such an uphill battle. You do your best and leave the rest to God.

Hang in there, Dev. We'll be thinking of you.

Alice

Have two cats. The offenders should be blind folded and shot in the back with pellets (would make me feel better). I keep thinking about the correlation between animal abuse and abusing fellow humans. Kids who do this kind of thing are likely to manifest this sort of behavior in even nastier ways later in life. Some people need a remedial course in basic parenting skills IMHO.

I'm sorry about this. I too have cats, well, two of them and they go outside.

I love them both very much, and they are very happy outside, but I knew when I made a decision to let them outside, that they would wander onto other peoples property and that was a risk.

Again, my deepest sympathy.

Sorry to hear that and i can only imagine your pain, i love cats!

Sounds like you are giving a good home and love top a lot of animals there who might not necessarily have it otherwise...although the events are horrific and tragic you gave that little cat a good life and did everything you could to save her.

I´m so sorry to read this, I recently lost a cat myself.

You have my sympathy. This is so hard. I cannot even think of animal abusers without seeing red.

Be kind to yourself, take time to heal.
