7 days is great Tomw! Congratulations. Worked out hard myself yesterday so I took a less intense and more relaxing walk today. It is finally a fairly warm and enjoyable day here as it appears Spring is finally making an appearance. I kept thinking to myself "what a wonderful day to be sober". So many experiences are more meaningful, enjoyable, and rememberable sober. For me it took a little while to notice but it is totally worth it.
Wishing you all the best on your continued recovery.

There is so many things to do besides drinking.
What are you interested in, any hobbies?
Do not throw that week away, do not drink.
Do something you haven't done in a long time. Read, see a movie, go for a walk, take the wife/kids out, anything, but drink.
Congratulations on the week, you can do this.

Thanks folks. I went out and bought some candy and with your words of encouragement the urge has subsided. That was close, thanks again

Congrats again. Glad to hear it. Whenever I have been able to get past an urge my favorite part is the next morning. I am always so much happier and peaceful waking up with a success rather than a hangover!
Have a great morning!

This is day 5 for me. I'm just amazed at how much of my ability to function alcohol has taken away from me just in the last year. I have no coordination, so stamina, terrible spatial perception, can hardly make sentences ... I just know if I go back to drinking I'll be moving even farther away from being able to live again, and instead will move closer to death. That's my reason, at least for today.

Congratulations on day 7! Just get thru the urges, they will pass. As time goes on, they will get shorter and shorter (and so I keep telling myself, too).

Day 7 is nothing to scoff at, keep it up! You are doing great.

In Recovery period especially in early recovery the book even suggest having sweets around, chocolate is a good one, it takes the cravings away. Also once in that spot if you can just divert your thinking over to something other than the thinking of the drinking than you should be just fine!..

Here is something I wrote years ago here I will share it with ya.

There Is Hope

If you are new to this site
Pull up a chair and give up the fight

We all know what it was like in those days
You couldn't even feel the suns rays

But if you just take a deep breath
Hold on to our hands and do the rest

You can beat this alcohol and drugs
You don't have to stay on that rug

Get up and dust yourself off today
And tell yourself just for today

I don't have to drink or use
And then you know that you will not loose

We know how hard it is at first
If your like me you will want to curse

Thats ok if that is what you need
Just remember to water the seed

The seed of life is in your days ahead
You will be able to lay down in bed

Knowing that you did the best that you can do
Then the days won't be so blue

Remember not to dwell on the past mistakes
Go ahead and give yourself a break

For none of us are perfect in any way
I just wanted to say Hey

Tom, exercise is a great aide to sobriety, but exercise alone can get very boring.... I know!!! Yes exercising hard gets that high, but it goes away.

I used to drink when I was bored, I found that there is far more to staying sober then exercising, I found that I could not exercise 24X7, I needed to find a way to stay sober that I could do 24X7. What I discovered was AA. AA taught me a new solution for ALL parts of my life. Life is 24X7 I found & what I have learned in AA works 24X7 because in AA I have learned a new way of life.

I learned it from people who know how to stay sober & live life on lifes terms one day at a time.

Have you considered AA? What do you have to lose? A drinking problem? What do you have to gain? A new way of living a happy life & new sober friends to walk the path of sobriety with you.
