Hello
Hi,
So I decided to find a site today because I have found that my life is quickly slipping out of my control and that if I am not an alcoholic, I am certainly headed down that path. And, I want help and support so I am glad that this is here.
Let me give you a bit of an introduction. I am 21 years old and a college student. Last semester, I was studying abroad in Japan for what was supposed to be a year but got cut short to just four months. I had to leave because I was a victim of a sexual crime (which I read I should not go into here, but thank you so much for linking me to Pandora's Aquarium).
Towards the end of the trip is when my drinking started hard, to the points where I would not remember lots of what I did. When I got home, I started drinking alone and the quantities increased. I have only been home a month, but I decided I need help.
My problem with alcohol, originally, was binge drinking. I was never happy with one glass, I always needed more. And then the drinking alone started, which I feel, is an entirely different issue.
Well thank you for this site, I am very glad that I found it.

Welcome! I was a binge drinker, and eventually that progressed into alone-drinking, hiding my drinking, and ultimately almost killing me. I'm so glad you're recognizing the need for help now, there's lots of support here and lots of experience in how to get and stay sober. Glad you're here!!
Hi Ex
I'm sorry for what happened to you...I hope you are talking with a counsellor, or decide to.
You'll find a lot of support here for your drinking, and a lot understanding...
a lot of us progressed to drinking alone...for me it became preferable to do it that way - I could drink as much as like without having to worry what others thought or being embarrassed if anything happened, as it usually did.
SR helped me turn that around. Hope we can do that for you too
Welcome!

Welcome to SR! I'm glad you found us and joined the family. You are wise to stop drinking now, to stop it before it stops you. I hope we can give you the support and information to help you get and stay sober. :ghug3

Welcome to SR Exhibition.
I think you are right that when people start drinking alone it is a big problem and I commend you for being smart enough to realize that at such a young age. A lot of us didn't.
I feel you can redevelop positive life patterns.
Good luck in your quest.
