New

I'm new to soberierty and having a hard time. I have been drinking excessively for about 6 years. I have been sober since 11/30/09 and I think this is the longest I have gone in 6 years without a drink. I'M SCARED! I have been feeling ok until today. Nasty headache, incredibly fatigued, shaky, anxious, irritable, and extremely foggy. I can't seem to remember something someone told me an hour ago. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get through this without going back to the bottle?? How long will this last?!

Hi Gotta Give

Pls see your doctor, if only to put your mind at rest.
What you're describing is common, at least for me - but detox can sometimes be problematic.

Welcome

Thanks Dee74! I actually went to my doctor a couple weeks ago and she was the one who encouraged, well demanded, that I quit drinking. After a week or so of teater tottering around I made the decision Monday morning, after a very rough week of drinking, that I have no other choice but to get sober. Going back to see her tomorrow. I will discuss my symptoms. Just not feeling well and I keep thinking a beer will make me feel better.....

Resist that feeling. You don't want to have to go through this again

Hi Gottagive, and welcome to SR
yes, try and hang on if you can, it will get better.
good for you for making the decision to stop drinking..a huge first step...
drink lots of water if you can manage it and keep lots of hard candy handy..it will help replace all the calories your body was getting from the booze

Welcome to SR...

Good to know you will check with your doctor.

For now....
try to drink water and Gatorade is also good
to flush out toxins. Cut out caffeine ..eat lightly.
Rest if you can't sleep....warm shower or bath relaxes
and aspirin works for aches.

Don't hesitate to call your doctor tonight if you
get worried.

Glad you joined our recovery community...

Having a beer is not moving forward... it will keep you in hell. Detoxing is very uncomfortable and dangerous depending on the individual. Be smart and talk with your Doc.

Just so you know I had every symptom you are describing on more than one detoxing episode. Don't cave in, it will keep you trapped in the cycle of hell. Hang on and hang around

Thanks everyone! Encouraging reply's. Thank goodness for this site! It was enough of a distraction to keep me from going out and buying something to drink!
