WHY do alcoholics think they can really balance family and their addiction? AH thinks I'm deranged for even SUGGESTING that he can't look after DD after drinking every night and getting 3 hours sleep. He will not accept that he must make a choice. I just want to shake him and scream at the top of my lungs, "YOU DON'T GET BOTH!"

OMG I told AH this for years! But I didn't actually believe it myself for about 11 years. Finally left in September. It's still a struggle sometimes but being alone is so much better than living with that insanity.

mine did get both though, for a lot of years, simply by not choosing, or by choosing alcohol and telling me he'd chosen us. or by just plain old choosing alcohol. And I prolonged it all, waited around for him to actually choose us until I finally admitted defeat and made the choice myself.
