Newly registered and unsure

Hello. I am the wife of a lifetime prescription drug abuser. He is now in his
70s. At this late date, I don't think he is going to get off the Vicoden and other meds that he is using now. I intend to stay with him and am trying to have a peaceful home and a social life and outside activities that bring me some happiness. I am finding it hard to live peacably with this man and am hoping to get hints from others in the same situation. He is very verbally abusive and I would like to learn some strategies to help me in dealing with this. He sleeps 18-20 hours a day but gets angry if I go out with friends or family during that time. He wants me to stay home and amuse myself and be there when he wakes up and feels like some company.
Hopefully there are others in the same boat within this group that have experiences and advice that will help me. And hopefully I will be able to offer some help to others too.

Hi Kathie

I'm sorry for your situation. I think it's very important you take care of you.

We have Family and Friends forums here. I really urge you to take a look - you'll find a lot of people in similar situations, with a lot of help, support and experience to share

Hi Kathie,

Welcome and I think it's great that you are looking for support for yourself. You do need to take care of you.

Dee's suggestion to check out the Friends & Families forum is a good one.

Welcome, Kathie.

If you came for support, this is a very good place for that. I agree with Dee and Anna, check out that forum--you are far from alone in your situation.
