What do i do
hello,
My name is Eric and today is the day I'm deciding to be sober. I'm scared, I really don't know what to do. All I know is something must be done. Everything is falling apart before my eyes. When my wife looks at me I see hurt and disappointment in her eyes. I don't drink everyday but when I do, I don't remember the next day what happened but I usually make a complete ass out of myself. I can go on and on about the bad choices I make when I drink. I'm lost. I need help, advice and support. This is my first time ever reaching out for help. I hope it works.

Hi Eric and Welcome,
I'm glad you have decided to live a sober life.
The first thing you should do is to talk to your dr. It can be very dangerous to detox from alcohol. Take a look around and read and learn. There is lots of support here.

Welcome to SR! Quitting drinking isn't easy but it is simple: just don't drink. Do'nt drink one day at a time. It's easier to deal with one day than the rest of your life, so just be sober for today.
Seeing a doctor is wise too as detox can be dangerous. Be safe while withdrawing. AFter you've detoxed, you may want to look into a program of recovery. The best known is AA but there are many others out there too. Counseling can also be helpful in fighting addiction.
I'm glad you found us and joined the family. We support each other in our quest to stay clean and sober.

Welcome, Eric. Don't be scared - it's far scarier to keep on drinking. Your life doesn't have to turn into a nightmare like many of ours have. You are young and can turn it all around. It only feels strange in the beginning, while you become adjusted to life without it. Don't be discouraged if you feel less than thrilled at first - you will soon see that life lived with eyes wide open, not numb, is the only way to go.
You'll feel so relieved when you no longer have to wonder what you said or did the night before. I tried for so many years to moderate/control my drinking & it never worked. I dug myself into a hole I almost couldn't claw my way out of. This will not be you! Are you going to try attending AA meetings? I don't currently attend, but for so many it's been a lifesaver. Take heart, it's going to be ok.
