Well...this is thought provoking. I'm on Day 6 of not drinking after years of heavy drinking. I've had no withdrawal symptoms at all....no nausea, no shakes no chills, etc., and I've had no cravings to drink at all. I'm beginning to wonder if I actually need to do the inpatient rehab or just start attending AA meetings.

I guess I'll go to the VA on Tuesday anyway and see what the docs there have to say. They only have a limited amount of beds available, and I'd feel worse if I took a bed away from someone who is really in need of intensive rehab.

Glad you're feeling good, rangerbob! You're probably right asking the docs what they think. Hope it works out for the best whatever y'all decide. Well done!

If you're six days sober and haven't had any withdrawal symptoms, you are lucky indeed. I always felt like I was going to die for the first few days detoxing. Maybe you don't need inpatient rehab, maybe an outpatient program and/or AA meetings will do you just fine.

Congrats on a good start to a better, sober life.

Hey Bob

Every detox was different for me - and I have hundreds to choose from LOL
Do go to the VA and see what they have to say - it can't hurt

and I'm not an AAer but hitting your first meeting right about now couldn't hurt either - just to check out what it's like, get some numbers.

in my experience recovery never goes in a straight line Bob...it's tough sometimes and there will be times you'll need support...

here's a link about other programmes too

hi bob!

congratulations - and why not let the VA doc determine the needing a bed thing? It may well work out that you can do some outpatient thing... since youve already done the six without...

way to go!
