Hi everyone,
Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting although i have been reading on this site for a few months. I am addicted to heroin/oxycontin, clean since sept.15th This is my third attempt to stay clean. I had close to a year and relapsed. I thought i could use some online support, thank you for lettin me share a little.
Welcome to SR NAchic, I am an alcoholic and use AA for my recovery, we have quite a few addicts in AA in my area, many use AA & NA to stay clean and sober. Have you tried either one or any other programs? It would be a darn good idea to come clean with your doctor as well.
There is a forum specific to substance abuse. Check it out for advice, support, and new friends. Welcome to SR! We'll do what we can to support you in staying clean. Here is the link

The worst part right now for me is not being able to sleep. I can only get a few hours at one time. and it is not even a deep sleep, I can feel myself awake and thinking. Any suggestions?

hey NAchic welcome to SR!!!! Like somebody said above, check out the substance abuse forums. I am a former heroin addict as well and have detoxed countless times cold turkey.
A few helpful tips to get a bit more rest than your 1-3 hours during detox is : Soak in a hot bath for 30-45 minutes. Not only does this relax your muscles and bones which will help with the constant aches, but, it also will make you drowsy. Take a few tylenol PM before getting in the bath and by the time your out you should be tired enough to get a few extra hours than normal. (IF you do not have a tub a hot shower works almost as well, just hard to keep standing up while detoxing, I had the energy of a 90 year old man during that time)
What I also learned was, laying in bed with the lights off trying to force myself to sleep during this time would just drive me insane. Its better not to fight the insomnia, just accept that for a week or two you arent going to get much sleep and try to make the best of it. I would stay up and watch dvds, listen to music, read posts on this site // use the chatroom. Basically anything to keep your mind off the dope. The worst of it will be over after 5 days (as im sure you already know)
If you wanna talk more feel free to PM me. I put together a great little "Strategy guide" for dealing with at home heroin detox. Got a lot of useful things that will help ease the withdrawal. stay strong ~~ Scott

As DB mentioned baths can be a great way to get rid of some of the toxins, especially if you add "Epsom Salt".

I always heard 3rd times the Charm!!! We are all glad you are here. I can relate to how you feel. I dont think I hardly slept for a month detoxing, and sometimes when I did the dreams were brutal. But just remember it gets better and also this can be the last time that you ever have to go thru withdrawls and detox. One way thats helped me stay sober is to always remember that my disease wants me dead, and today Im so thankful not to be a slave to dope. That alone is truly a blessing. Some ways that Ive heard that can help with the insomnia and detox is to get out and exercise. I was able to do a lil walking while i was detoxing and I believe it was very helpful for my mind and my body. Stay Strong!!!!!!!
Hi Taz, I am attending an intensive outpatient group along with NA meetings daily. My first attempt to get clean i made sure i did something everyday for my recovery, then i start to feel i am ok with this. And the meetings get less and less. I hope i can find the strength to keep it going one day at a time.
