Hi.....really hoping this is a supportive forum
Hi all, first post from the UK
I'm at my wits end...don't even know what to say, or how to say it.
Just know I need to stop drinking
Don't feel up to going to meetings, so hoping that I can find an online community to communicate with and to be accountable to.
Its 06:46 in the UK, I am desperate that today I won't have a drink.
Hopefully when I next post I have something slightly more articulate to say to you all

Welcome to SR redpencil, sobriety takes action, coming here seeking support is a good beginning. I found that in order for me to stay sober I had to be willing to do what ever it took to not drink.
I was desperate enough to stay sober that when they suggested to me in detox that I go to at least 90 AA meetings in 90 days and get a sponsor, I did just that. I didn't feel like doing a whole lot of things, but I was desperate to stay sober so even though I did not feel like going to meetings, I wanted to stay sober enough to where I went to meetings when at first I did not want to them.
It took me about 2 weeks of going to meetings every day and staying sober and suddenly I found myself looking forward to going to meetings, making and maintaining sober friends. That and learning how to deal with life one day at a time sober.
My biggest problem I found was not knowing how to handle life sober, I always wound up drinking again. In AA I learned how to live life sober, how to handle life with out the need for a drink to deal with it. Having face to face support made all the difference in the world to me.

Welcome to SR Redpencil!! I've always found this to be a very supportive place. By supportive, I mean folks here really care about each other. That means they may tell you things that you might not want to hear, but that is their experience of what it takes to get and stay sober.
Look around, read some posts, check out the chat room.

Welcome Red! Great responses already, as usual. I have little to add, except to say - you articulated very well the feeling I had when I first logged on here - at my wit's end & didn't know what to say or how to say it. That was me over 2 yrs. ago and now here I sit, sober, filled with hope for the future, and writing to you.
Looking forward to hearing more about you later, and sending good thoughts over there to you. This can be a new beginning for you - no more being a slave to the poison. No more living a limited life due to your dependence. I didn't realize how small my world had become until I broke free.

I am new to the forum and taking my baby steps into a life of sobriety myself. I have gotten a lot from reading the posts of the members here and their experiences.
Glad that you found the forum, and hope to see you around again.

hi red....welcome, welcome.
support is awesome here -- i can definitely attest to that. the ppl here are a very real and caring group. like someone mentioned before, make sure to read posts around the site and esp the stickies at the top of the individual forums that pertain to you. there are meetings in chat if you want some live interaction or to go to a meeting that isn't face 2 face.
please post again, we look forward to hearing how you are doing. i come to this site allllll the time and it's bookmarked on my toolbar for quick access. it doesn't matter the time either--someone is always here.
sending my support to you bo

Welcome to a very supportive and understanding place. We've all had different levels of trouble relating to our drinking or using, but many of us are maintaining sobriety, with or without a formal 'program'.
Glad you joined the family!:ghug3

Hey red, welcome
You certainly don't have to drink if you choose not to.
Hang out here, jump into chat..
You may find that an anonymous internet forum isn't the ONLY help you will need.. but I could be wrong. When I got sober, I had to be willing to do ANYthing to get there, I hope you are too!
