At the risk of appearing maudlin
At the risk of appearing maudlin
I thought I'd share this song by Tom Rush off my favorite CD "Bleeker Street".
I know your leavin's too long overdue
For far too long I've had nothin' new to show to you
Goodbye dry eyes I watched your plane
Fade off west of the moon
And it felt so strange to walk away alone
No regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again
The hours that were yours, echo like empty rooms
The thoughts we used to share, I now keep alone
I woke last night and spoke to you,
not thinking you were gone
It felt so strange to lie awake, alone
No regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again
Our friends have tried to turn my nights to day
Strange faces in your place can't keep the ghosts away
Just beyond the darkest hour, just behind the dawn
Still feels so strange to lead my life, alone
I've no regrets, no tears goodbye
Don't want you back, we'd only cry, again
Say goodbye, again
I like that thought--no regrets. For me, no need to drink the pain away, it'd only come back again, I'd only cry again.

Alcoholism appears to bring fulfillment, which is why it is so painful when it ends. It only brings emptiness though. It tricks us into thinking we are fulfilled, but it's a mirage. Anytime you have to induce a state of intoxication to FEEL something, you know there is a problem. Recognizing this as soon as possible is the key.
Great lyrics. Rock on!

MCF you are not sounding "maudlin". You are sounding like someone in recovery, working their way through some pretty 'heavy' emotional chit right now.
Good for you. You are feeling the feelings. You are walking through them, not around them or running from them. This is what recovery is about. Living through those 'curve balls' that life throws us, as some of them, as in this instance can be pretty nasty to our psyche.
Way to go!!!!!!!
Whether you know it or not, your recovery is shining!!!!
Love and hugs,
